Aberdeen No 4 Lighthouse Cottages - two bedrooms
Description and Facilities
Accommodation Description
This very special two bedroomed cottage is in a majestic position inside the walled compound of the historic Aberdeen Girdleness Lighthouse. Just a few steps away is the still-working 130 ft lighthouse tower (now operated remotely). Every night it sends its rotating beam out to sea to safeguard shipping – In Salutem Omnium (For the Safety of All).
The cottage is a conversion of the original machinery room adjacent to the Assistant Lighthouse Keeper’s cottage.
The coastal location is superb on a headland south of Aberdeen harbour and a prominent landmark when arriving in Aberdeen by air, train or ferry. It is only a ten minute drive from the centre of Aberdeen and also convenient for the business areas of Altens and Tullos.
Aberdeen city centre (including Aberdeen’s newest shopping and leisure mall), railway station, ferry and harbour are only two miles away.
The property has been recently upgraded and professionally interior designed.
The surrounding area is a true natural beauty spot with the dramatic coastline forming part of the District Wildlife Site. The surrounding cliffs attract a wide range of wild birds, bottlenose and white dolphins which are a popular site swimming up and down the coast. In fact the nearby mouth of Aberdeen harbour is one of the best places in Europe to see dolphins.
Balnagask public golf links is in walking distance and shares the headland with the lighthouse. It has 18 and 9 hole courses and pitch and putt.
The accommodation is equipped with TV with Sky channels, DVD, free WiFi, fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, fridge, freezer and premium capsule coffee machine. All towels and bed linen are included. There is a large (1 acre) walled shared grassed area.
The lighthouse has a Grade A listing with Historic Scotland as a building of Architectural/Historic interest.
